Gallery Artists

C.J. Latta
C.J. Latta is a member of a 5th generation Texas ranching family and loves painting everything Texan and western. From childhood on, her dream was to become a professional artist, and she was able to combine her love for art, science, and language to accomplish that goal. After spending many years as an award-winning medical illustrator in Houston, C.J. returned to the family ranch in Fredericksburg to paint full-time in her studio on the banks of Landrum Creek. She loves painting large, mural-size pieces and says she has enough beautiful references from her home area to last a lifetime. C.J. is represented by several reputable galleries and participates in national shows yearly.

Debbie Itschner
Deborah’s interest in art began at an early age. While others were playing, she would doodle and draw. Her favorite classes throughout her school years were art. She was known by her friends and peers as the “paper doll” artist where she drew, for others, cardboard paper dolls, and clothes with tabs for them to color and cut out. She found art to be very relaxing and a means to escape off into a world full of color, which she loves. From 1972-1978, Deborah served her country in the U. S. Air Force. While serving a tour in England, she painted her first four commissioned acrylic paintings. Still desiring to pursue her art talent, she enrolled with Art Instruction Schools, Inc., in 1974, graduating with high marks. Unfortunately, her military service and future commitments to job and family prevented her from pursing a fine art career until the fall of 2007. In Albuquerque, NM, her passion to paint was re-ignited while oil painting with a friend. After residing in New Mexico for 22 years, Deborah and her husband, Roy, chose to return to their native land of Texas, settling down in the Hill country town of Burnet. She became a member of the Highland Arts Guild in Marble Falls, TX, where she joyfully hung her first painting. She happily shares her love for art by teaching beginner art students out of her home. In 2009, Deborah studied with well-known landscape artist, Lynwood Bennett. Lynwood studied with Al Moore who studied under the late renowned artist, Bob Wygant. Her studies with Lynwood reunited her back to acrylics with a newfound love for its versatility. and brilliant colors. Deborah participated in several art shows in past years. She was selected into her first juried show in Brownwood, TX, in February 2011, and received her first “People's Choice Award” in the Salon Show in March 2011.

Greg Glowka
Born in 1957 in San Antonio, Greg Glowka grew up with an appreciation for the natural beauty of the surrounding Texas Hill Country. He began painting at age 14, but his attention turned to commercial art in college at the University of Texas in San Antonio. After a successful career as a graphic designer, he now spends most of his time back at the easel. His landscapes are “better than being there”. Almost photographic but with the richness of oil paints, one is drawn into the scenery and breathes the atmosphere of each location: hills strewn with oak trees, light dancing on cool streams, sunsets of gold and orange, wildflowers subtlety dusting a field. Large canvases are the artist’s specialty. Greg prefers painting on location, spending quiet afternoons in the middle of nowhere far from the hustle and bustle of the city; however, he often works in his studio from memory or photographs taken over the years. You will find Greg’s work in many prestigious collections, including Fidelity Investments, Texas Instruments, J. C. Penney, Texaco, Texas Insurance Agency, USAA and many private and individual collections.

Kay Walton
Kay Walton is a full –time artist who creates paintings of distinction. She is continually inspired by Texas landscapes, especially the beautiful Hill Country dotted with oaks, sparkling streams, winding roads and quaint farmhouses. Kay’s paintings reflect her years of study with many teachers. Classes with renowned painter and master teacher William Henry Earle and with his protégée Carole Pyburn profoundly influenced her development as an artist. (Pyburn had studied with Ray Froman in addition to her years of study with Earle. Both Froman and Earle had received their training from the Art Students League of New York City and went on to illustrious careers in the art world.) It is the art theory they taught which influenced Kay’s work, particularly in the utilization of color and light. Learning to refine her skill has been a lifelong passion. Kay has been painting professionally for over forty years. Today she is well known for use of light and her Texas bluebonnets. She is a native Texan with a strong connection to the natural beauty of the state, and she travels often to the Hill Country and other regions to paint and renew her inspiration for new works. Teaching artistic theory to aspiring painters is also a commitment she made in 1988.

Larry Dyke
Dyke is one of the most successful and acclaimed artists of his generation. He paints powerful landscapes inspired by his deep, personal belief in Christ and his frequent travels to domestic, international, and exotic locales. A master of the landscape, the artist has devoted his life’s work to interpreting the beauty he beholds in nature. Dyke has a distinctive ability to create a scene which captivates the imagination of the viewer. His genius lies in his talent to create intricate settings that appeal to art lovers of all ages. A devotion to his Christian beliefs is the driving force guiding Dyke’s life. In his paintings, the artist captures not only the great outdoors, but the spiritual sense of perfection he views as God’s handiwork. Each painting Dyke creates carries a related Bible verse below his signature. Dyke states, "When I became a full-time artist, I was impressed to put a scriptural notation on each of my paintings. It’s an expression of what I think the true answer to life is.” A native Texan, Dyke is the consummate painter of what makes the Lone Star State so unique. As the title of one of his paintings, the artist chose "Deep in the Heart…” of his native land. The artist paints his beloved state, but he also creates scenes from his many travels that have featured the countryside of the northeast to the hills of Tennessee to the rugged landscape of California. Dyke also has created extraordinary paintings of world-renowned waterfalls and rain forests in Africa and South America, and landscapes of some of the world’s most celebrated golf courses. His attention to detail results in some of today’s most beautiful, intricate paintings in the traditional, realistic genre.

Larry Prellop
A native of Austin, Texas, Prellop is a self-taught artist who has been seriously interested in painting since childhood. In fact, he won his first award at age 11. "Ever since he was a child he knew he wanted to paint. Reflecting on his subject matter, the landscapes and seascapes of Texas", Prellop says, "I grew up in Central Texas and have been surrounded by the beauty of the landscape my entire life". His big break came within a few years after graduating high school when an art agent signed him to a contract allowing him to paint full time. Prellop's landscapes and seascapes are well known throughout Texas and the United States. His paintings are in private collections of prominent elected officials, such as former Texas Governor's Dolph Briscoe, Rick Perry and United States Congressman Kenny Marchant. He is also represented in corporate collections of Criterion Corporation, Sounthland Corporation, and Granite Properties to just name a few. In 1996, Prellop truly had his dream come true when he opened his own gallery in historic downtown Salado, Texas. A town steeped in Texas history and surrounded at every bend by magnificent views of the Texas landscape. In 2001, the Keep Texas Beautiful Organization chose to honor Prellop and his work as a visual link between the environmental efforts of volunteers across the state and the natural beauty of the Texas landscape. Since opening Prellop Fine Art Gallery, his reputation has continued to flourish as he has been placed among the exclusive ranks of premier Texas landscape painters. Written by: Diane C.
